| Lisdoonvarna, on the edge of the Burren
was developed as a spa by the Victorians, but is more famous today
for its matchmaking and music festivals. The town has a number of
brightly coloured buildings and traditional pubs. The Burren is a
vast limestone plateau of outstanding natural beauty. It's flora,
archaeology, geology, legends and history make it unique in Europe.
On the coast of West Clare, are the breathtaking Cliffs of Moher.
They rise in places to over 700 feet and stretch for almost 8 km.
O'Brien's Tower which was constructed in the early l9th century as a
viewing point for Victorian tourists is located on Moher's highest
cliffs. Visitors to the area can also enjoy Ailwee Cave, Cahermore
Stone Fort and many ancient sites such as the Poulnabrone Dolmen and
the Gleninsheen Wedge Tomb. |
