| The tiny Confert Cathedral which is
close to Ballinasloe is a perfect example of Romanesque architecture
and is believed to be the burial place of St Brendan, the great
navigator. On the Galway coast you will find Kinvarra, a charming
fishing village where visitors can see traditional Galway wooden
sailing boats called hookers. Nearby, on the shore of Galway Bay is
Dunghaire Castle. The present castle on the site was built in the
16th century and the banqueting hall is still used for recreated
medieval banquets. Galway city lies at the heart of Connacht, the
Land of the Ancient Kings. The city centre has many narrow winding
streets which are perfect for exploring on foot. Places to visit in
Galway include Eyre Square, the Latin Quarter; including Shop Street
with its cosmopolitan shops and cafes, and Lynch's Castle which is
the grandest 16th century house in the city. |
