Urlingford is a bustling little
town in North Kilkenny which
dates back to 1755. it is an
ideal base for touring in a
relaxing sort of way. On the
doorstep is Kilcooley Abbey
founded in 1184 by Donal Mior
O'Brien of Thomand. It is a
daughter house of Jerpoint
Abbey, County
Kilkenny, and set in unspoiled
countryside it gives a feeling
of being net to heaven.
Less than half an hour drive
to the Rock of Cashel - The Seat
of the Kings of Munster. it was
the first Irish Church to have
been built in Romanesque style,
and still has the only
Romanesque frescoes found in
this country.
Kilkenny Castle to the south is
also within half hour drive. For
800 years Kilkenny Castle has
overlooked Kilkenny City. it has
been restored to
its original grandeur and a
wonderful place to take one back
in time. Northwards there is the
breathtaking views from the
Slieve Bloom mountains and onto
Birr Castle, and walk through
their famous gardens. |
