Local
Attractions
|
Bunratty Castle and Folk Park are one of
Limerick's main attractions. The castle was built in 1425, and
authentically restored in the 1950s to its former medieval
splendour, with furniture and tapestries capturing the mood and
style of the times. Recreated medieval banquets are held in the
castle. The adjacent Folk Park is a meticulous recreation of life in
rural Ireland. The 13th century King John's Castle provides an
imaginative historical exhibition, multi-vision show, excavated
early Norman houses and battlement walks. The Burren in County Clare
is a vast limestone plateau of outstanding natural beauty. It's
flora, archaeology, geology, legends and history make it unique in
Europe. On the coast of West Clare, are the breathtaking Cliffs of
Moher. They rise in places to over 700 feet and stretch for almost 8
km. O' Brien's Tower which was constructed in the early l9th century
as a viewing point for Victorian tourists is located on Moher's
highest cliffs.
