It features forest walks, lake, arboretum and a nature trail and the 18th Century home of poet Aubrey deVere. The Foynes Flying Boat Museum recalls the 1930s and early 1940s when the port of Foynes was the fulcrum point for air-traffic between the United States and Europe. A short drive through Limerick, Bunratty Castle and Folk Park are one of Ireland's main attractions. The castle was built in 1425, and authentically restored in the 1950s to its former medieval splendour, with furniture and tapestries capturing the mood and style of the times. Recreated medieval banquets are held in the castle. The adjacent Folk Park is a meticulous recreation of life in rural Ireland. A short drive from Bunratty, the 13th century King John's Castle provides an imaginative historical exhibition, multi-vision show, excavated early Norman houses and battlement walks.
