Loughs Agency Annual Pike Angling

The Loughs Agency will be holding its
annual pike fishing festival
in September
2010 in Baronscourt Estate, Co Tyrone.
Last year’s one day event was a
huge success
with nearly 50 anglers taking part
and 26 pike caught and returned
to the water.
The largest (111cm), was caught
by John Kelly. These
events are suitable for adults and
juniors making it an ideal day out for
the family. There will be lots of top
prizes and plenty of opportunity to
learn the art of pike fishing.

Benedict Kiely
Literary Weekend, Omagh, Co Tyrone |

The 9th
Benedict Kiely Literary Weekend
is held in
September. Benedict
Kiely, one of the most distinguished
figures in twentieth century Irish
literature, was born near Dromore,
Co.Tyrone. His first novel 'Land Without
Stars' (1946) was the first of ten
novels which he was to write. He was
also a prolific writer of short stories,
several of which first appeared in
periodicals such as the New Yorker. The
'Collected Short Stories ', forty nine
in all, appeared in 2001. Benedict Kiely
was familiar as a broadcaster, largely
through RTE's 'Sunday Miscellany' radio
feature, on which he was a stalwart for
a quarter of a century from the 1970's
to the 1990's. The author died in Dublin
in February 2007 and is buried in
Omagh's Dublin Road cemetery.

Festival gets underway in August.
The festival base this year will be
Plumbridge and Newtownstewart in the
heart of the Sperrins region. Walkers
will be spoilt of choice with a range of
different walking routes and guides who
will provide interpretation on the many
features of interest and habitats
encountered along the way. These walks
dissect some of the most spectacular
scenery in Ireland and undiscovered
parts of the Sperrins, a truly
unforgettable experience.
This is also a fantastic opportunity to
meet new people, join in on a range of
activities and get fit at the same time!

Annual Appalachian and Bluegrass
Festival, Omagh, Co
Tyrone The 19th Annual
Appalachian & Bluegrass Music Festival held in the
Ulster American Folk Park, Omagh in
September is one of the largest festivals of its kind in
Europe. Musicians and dancers from all over the world will perform to
hugely appreciative audiences in the unique setting of the outdoor
museum. Get along to the ‘Bluegrass in the Park’ afternoon sessions or
the evening concerts and experience something really special.
International and award winning artists include Dale Ann Bradley and
The Gibson Brothers direct from the USA.
