Athlone Literary Festival |

Athlone Literary Festival 2010 will take
place in
September. It will include an
exciting mixture of readings, workshops
and other convivial literary gatherings
involving a variety of exciting
contributors. Athlone Literary Festival
2010 is also very pleased to be taking
part in Co. Westmeath’s first Culture
Night on Friday 24th.
The Festival has its origins in
the first John Broderick Weekend held in
May 1999. The festival is aimed at
readers and writers and all those who
enjoy good conversation and good
literature.
Speakers include academics, wits,
writers, poets, novelists, biographers,
publishers and literary agents from time
to time

Moate Agricultural Show
held in August,
attracts patrons and exhibitors
from all over Ireland. There is
something for young and old at the show!
Moate Agricultural Show is one of the
oldest in the country. It was first held
in 1839. There are classes for horses,
cattle, sheep, poultry, farm produce,
cut flowers and floral arrangements.

Goldsmith
International Literary Festival , this is the
third oldest event of its type in
Ireland. Happening annually over the
June Bank Holiday Weekend it takes place
in the South Longford-Westmeath area
that is becoming increasingly known as
Goldsmith Country.
Oliver
Goldsmith was born in the Irish village
of Pallas, in County Longford on Nov.
10, 1728. His father was a poor Anglican
clergyman. The fifth of eight children. Goldsmith
died in 1774 and was buried in the
Poets' Corner of Westminster Abbey in
London.

Festival and promises to be a wonderful

The RTÉ
All-Ireland Drama Festival comprises of
nine nights of the best in Irish amateur
drama performed at the Dean Crowe
Theatre Athlone for the prestigious
Festival Trophy as well as for other
major acting and technical awards. The
festival is supported by an active
fringe which involves street theatre,
art exhibitions, workshops and events
for all age groups. |
