County Leitrim

Leitrim
Leitrim

Leitrim county is dominated by its many beautiful waterways and rivers and in particular the town of Carrick-On-Shannon, overlooking the River Shannon on a Summers Day there is nothing quite like the view on offer. It is quite picturesque with its many boats and barges berthed in the Marina.

Located just 30 minutes from Sligo and a little over 1 hour 30 minutes to Dublin, it is very accessible and well worth the effort. Leitrim has the Lough Allen sitting in the middle of the county where any number of water sport activities are available.

It is no surprise that the Shannon Erne Waterway route runs through the county of Leitrim. Drumshanbo one of the towns in Leitrim set in a hilly, woodland area, overlooked by both Sliabh an Iarainn (the iron mountain) where iron ore was mined and also the Arigna mountains where coal mining took place, the history can now be found at Arigna Mining Experience Centre in County Roscommon.

Glencar Waterfall

Some more towns and villages in Leitrim to be visited include Ballinamore, Carrick On Shannon, Dromahair, Drumshanbo, Kinlough and Manorhamilton.

Dromahair
